Boston Engine Company 51

Boston, Massachusetts
12,500 ft2

Engine Company 51 is a turn of the 20th century Boston Fire Station in the Oak Square section of Brighton, Massachusetts, and, as one of the oldest fire stations remaining in Boston, it was in desperate need of repair.  Organized by the Boston Public Facilities Department, the project focused on a new apparatus bay slab with seismic bracing spanning the height of the building to ensure that the fire station is prepared to respond in the event of a natural disaster.

Further amenities brought the building up to modern standards, including an ADA and code compliant entrance and restroom integrated into the existing structure, while other efforts such as an updated house watch, two new emergency egress stairs, and a new commercial kitchen, created a more efficient and comfortable atmosphere within the building.  A new site drainage system was also provided to alleviate persistent flooding within the basement.
